If the BayDrive is mounted to an unbraced gate, it may cause the gate to move like a concertina door (linear vertical direction) rather than pivoting about the point where the gate is fitted to the culvert or outlet. Allowing the gate to concertina can result in over-torquing as the lifting channels may impact the culvert or outlet prior to reaching its maximum travel limit.

Although there may be instances where bracing is not required, such as a consistently larger upstream water level when compared to downstream, we recommend that you install a brace to create a rigid structure that will force the gate to rotate correctly.

# Bracing Guide

To brace the gate use rivets to clamp together a total of 4 lengths of aluminium angle, 2 up-stream and 2 down-stream.

**Note:**

- The bracing should be symmetrical about the centre line of the gate and positioned as far apart as possible without affecting the folding of the flap.
- The angle should butt against the existing aluminium structure at the top of the gate
- The angle should finish at a distance of 50mm from the join to the civil structure.
- Rivets should be place at a distance of no greater than 100mm apart and down the centreline of the angle. The rubber flap will need to be match drilled.
- Any sharp edge on the aluminium angle must be removed as this may result in damage to the flap when loaded.
