It is important to consider that with the positive drive on opening and closing offered with your Rubicon actuation, any material building up downstream of your actuated door or around the hinge points of the actuated door could become an obstruction to the actuation of the door. The impact of this could be:

- The actuator draws excessive current trying to open the door to the designated fully opened position due to the door pushing up against the built up material
- The actuator draws excessive current trying to close the door to the designated fully closed position due to the hinge brackets pinching around built up material
- The actuator fails to reach its designated fully opened or fully closed position due to the obstruction
- The actuator switches to ‘Out of Service’ due to repeated overcurrent, requiring manual intervention to continue to operate the actuator
- The door becomes damaged due to constant pushing against obstructions, potentially leading to the failure of the door

Rubicon recommends that best practice is to:

- Minimise erosion by:
  - Installing BIDIM A44 geofabric (or approved equivalent) anchored into solid ground for a minimum distance of 1m downstream of the door structure, at a minimum width of 1.2m plus the width of the door structure (in consultation with an engineer)
  - Installing a layer of 225mm rock beaching on top of the above geofabric for a minimum distance of 1m downstream of the door structure, at a minimum width of 1.2m plus the width of the door structure (in consultation with an engineer)
  - Installing a concrete apron downstream of the door structure to distribute flow more evenly across the width of the irrigated area (in consultation with an engineer)
- Avoid loose material build up on top of concrete door structures or canal banks that could be washed into canals and cause obstructions to actuation
- Install the door structure at a height such that the internal base of the structure is not lower than the level of the irrigated area so that any eroded material or debris is not washed back into the door structure
