# Connect to a Device

> ℹ️ 
> ℹ️ DeviceConnect operates via a **Bluetooth®** connection. You must be within a few tens of metres of the device to which you are connecting in order to pair with the device. Ensure that Bluetooth is enabled on your device.

**Step 1: **

Tap the **Connect** button in DeviceConnect to scan for devices.  DeviceConnect will scan for local devices and display a list of any devices it finds.

> ℹ️ **Note**
> ℹ️ 
> ℹ️ By default, DeviceConnect only scans for FerIT devices. You can toggle the **Scan for all devices** switch to scan for any local device.

**Step 2:** 

Select the device that you want to pair with and tap the **Pair** button. DeviceConnect will connect to the selected device and display the device details screen.

> ℹ️ 
> ℹ️ You do not need to enter a password to connect to a device and view device settings. You will be prompted for a password if you want to change any device settings or to install or uninstall software.

To disconnect from a device choose **Disconnect** from the device menu
