## Instructions

> ℹ️ **Note**
> ℹ️
> ℹ️ Please check the FerIT battery voltage in the **DeviceConnect > Drivers > App Driver** *Data *tab before starting the update process. If the battery voltage is not greater than 12 Volts, please change the battery before proceeding.

**Step 1**

Download the appropriate firmware for your device and save it on your computer or mobile device.

**Step 2**

Make sure you have the password for the FerIT device.

**Step 3**

Pair your computer or mobile to the FerIT device.

**Step 4**

Tap the **Update Firmware** button to begin the update process.

**Step 5**

Navigate to the location of the firmware file then follow the prompts in the update wizard.

When the process is complete you will see a completion message and the device will restart. You can then reconnect to the device.

> ℹ️ **Note**
> ℹ️
> ℹ️ If you lose the connection with the device during the upgrade process, the application will display a warning and prompt you to restart the process.

# Upgrading from Version 1 firmware to Version 2 firmware

You can upgrade the FerIT from version 1 to version 2 but you **cannot downgrade from version 2**.

Please take the following precautions before upgrading:

- Ensure that Output Rail is at least 12 volts in DeviceConnect > Drivers > App Driver > Data tab. If the voltage is under 12, change the battery.
- For a FerIT Node with only the internal battery, connect it to PDT or an external 12V battery via the M12 8-pin round connector.
- Keep the DeviceConnect (or FarmConnect) application window open and do not switch to a different application during the upgrade process.
- We recommend that you use a laptop, rather than a mobile device for performing the upgrade.
- Make sure that you have at least 60 minutes of battery life available for the upgrade process. Also ensure that your device will not time-out (that is, switch to a screensaver) during the upgrade process. We recommend that you set the screen lock/timeout to 30 minutes.

If the upgrade process is interrupted for any reason DO NOT restart the FerIT device. Instead:

1. Restart DeviceConnect and scan for devices with **Scan for All Devices** enabled
2. Select **DfuTarg** and click **Pair** then continue with the upgrade process.
3. If there is no device called DfuTarg on the list, the device might become unresponsive. Power cycle the device and scan for it on DeviceConnect.

> ℹ️ When you have upgraded to version 2 firmware you will be able to update device firmware using the new Firmware Update Over the Air (FUOTA) feature. (This is available from Actility Services but not yet from ChirpStack).

When the upgrade is complete, confirm the following. These settings are required if you plan to use FUOTA:

- Check the xDot firmware version in the LoRa Remote driver > Info tab. It should be at least version 4.1.32. If it is not, you will need to upgrade the xDot firmware. Contact Rubicon Support for assistance.
- in the **DeviceConnect > Drivers > App Driver** *Data *tab, confirm that the **Bootloader** is at least V2 and the **SoftDevice Version** is at least 6.1.1
