If a radio node has remote comms, battery health can be checked as per [https://rubiconwater.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/FCKB/pages/2096562238](https://rubiconwater.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/FCKB/pages/2096562238) . To check battery health locally, remove the batteries and test them with a multimeter.

# Tools Required

- 10mm Spanner
- 4mm Allen key
- Multimeter

# Removing the iBee Node Battery

1. Switch the unit off.
2. Remove the front cover (1) and the front seal (2).
3. Undo the middle bolt with a 4mm Allen key.
4. Undo the 4 x 10mm nuts.
5. Remove the washers and the front plate (3).
6. Slide the gold housing (5) off the retaining bolts.
7. Release the velcro strap that secures the battery (4) to the cradle.
8. Remove the black and red spade connectors from the battery.
9. Slide the battery out of the radio housing.

# Removing the FerIT Solar Node Battery

1. Open the Solar Node
2. Disconnect the -ve (black) terminal (2) and the +ve (red) terminal (3). Note that the +ve terminal has a fuse holder on the loom).
3. Release the velcro strap (4) that secures the battery (1) to the cradle.
4. Remove the battery from the radio housing.

# Checking the Battery

1. Set a multi-meter to DC volts and check the battery voltage.
2. If the battery voltage is below 11.5V then the battery either needs to be charged or should be replaced.
3. Plug the battery to a 12V max 2A charger and set to trickle/lo charge. Leave the battery to charge overnight or as recommended by the charger manual
4. Disconnect the charger and allow the battery to sit for two days before re-checking the voltage with the multi-meter.

- If the battery voltage has remained above 12.5V, place the battery back into the Radio Node by following the removal steps in reverse.
- If the battery voltage is below 12V after that period, then the battery should be replaced.
