# Field Upgrade

Upgrade firmware on-site using a Rubicon Diagnostic Pendant connected to your laptop and to the Weather Station and the pedestal or FerIT.

## Parts required

- Rubicon Diagnostic Pendant (P/N 71040)

### **Pedestal sites**

- Modbus Splitter Kit (P/N 73138)
- M12-M12 Modbus Loom (P/N 81122)

### **FerIT sites**

- M12 8-way FerIT Programming Cable (P/N 71224)
- M12 8-way splitter (P/N 81315)

## Connecting the Pendant at a Pedestal site

**Step 1**

On the SolarDrive board, disconnect the RS-485 cable that runs between the SolarDrive and the RTU. 

> ℹ️ **Note**
> ℹ️ 
> ℹ️ You will reconnect the SolarDrive board and the RTU when the upgrade is complete.

**Step 2**

On the SolarDrive board, disconnect the RS-485 cable that runs between the SolarDrive and the RTU. 

**Step 3**

Proceed to [upgrade the firmware](https://rubiconwater.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/WS/pages/1932296374/Upgrading+Weather+Station+Firmware#Upgrading-the-Firmware).

### Connecting the Pendant at a FerIT site

**Step 1**

Disconnect the FerIT from the Power Module at the M12-8-way connector. (You will need to move the Power Module battery by undoing the Velcro strap to access the connector.)

> ℹ️ **Note**
> ℹ️ 
> ℹ️ The Ferit Node M12 8-way connector must remain disconnected from the Power Module, Pendant, and Weather Station for the duration of the upgrade process.
> ℹ️ 
> ℹ️ You will reconnect the FerIT and the Power Module once the upgrade is complete.

**Step 2**

Connect the M12 8-way FerIT programming cable to the Diagnostics Pendant

**Step 3**

Connect the M12 8-way splitter between the FerIT programming cable and the Power Module M12 8-way connector

**Step 4**

Proceed to [upgrade the firmware](https://rubiconwater.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/WS/pages/1932296374/Upgrading+Weather+Station+Firmware#Upgrading-the-Firmware).

# Upgrading the Firmware

**Step 1**

Execute the **weather_station_upgrade_PDT.bat** script. This script will be within your firmware release kit. 

A progress bar will be shown as the application is downloaded. When the upgrade is complete, a “Programming Successful” message is displayed.

**Step 2**

Disconnect the Diagnostic pendant and restore the connections between the Weather Station and the pedestal or FerIT:

- At a pedestal site, reconnect the RS-485 cable that runs between the SolarDrive board and the RTU.<u>** **</u>
- At a FerIT site, reconnect the FerIT to the Power Module.
